Forty five artists….one mountain.
July 1 to August 7
Centennial Museum of Sheguiandah
June 24, 2010 - The Willisville Mountain Project, a Northern Ontario multi-disciplinary art project, is a unique exhibit that should not be missed.
“We are very excited to host this beautiful exhibit at the Centennial Museum and would like to thank the artists and project coordinators for allowing us to help showcase the talent and beauty of the area,” said Heidi Ferguson, Museum Curator.
Forty-five artists created new artwork, inspired by Willisville Mountain, for the Project and it will be on display, July 1 to August 7, at the Centennial Museum of Sheguiandah. It has been on tour for the past year and this is the final opportunity to see the exhibit.
The opening reception will be on Saturday, July 10 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and many of the artists will be in attendance.
The artists involved in the project range from emerging to established artists from Ontario, Alberta, Quebec and the United States. They are painters, writers, photographers, performance artists, eco-sculptural artists, installation artists, musicians, writers and mixed media artists.
Willisville Mountain is located in the heart of the La Cloche Mountain range of Northern Ontario, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. It is a landscape celebrated by Canadian artists and made famous by the paintings and photographs of artists including Franklin Carmichael, A.Y. Jackson, A.J. Casson, Joachim Gauthier, Frederick Banting, York Wilson, Bruno Cavallo and Ivan Wheale, to name just a few. Hundreds of artistic images by dozens of artists have been created that portray, render and celebrate this beautiful site. www.willisvillemountain.com
